In Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, Charles Bovary is betrayed by his wife Emma. She commits adultery with two men because she finds her marriage with Charles not what she belief it would be like, so she tries to find the man who will remunerate her desires. At first Emma tries to hide her obtainings but when she sees that one of the men Léon could potentially result her what she wants she starts to let loose and show her affection. When this fails Emma tries to love her husband peradventure because she is ashamed of cheating but when another man she admires arrives she walks and moves roughly the town freely with him She gets the idea of how the perfect man should transmit themselves from reading mevery novels. Madame Bovarys relationships with men fail overdue to her ideas about love, as she tries to push them to be like the fiction characters she reads in her books. To begin with, with the use of a simile Emma finds that Charless character puts her off, she says:

The use of the word Charless conversation was as flat as any pavement means that Emma started to become bored of Charles because he no longer interested her. This may imply that Charles had a insufficiency of knowledge in romance and this may have caused Emma to picture at other men to fulfil her desires. We are compelled to feel sorry for Charles as both of his marriages did not work out.
