Two migrant field workers in California during the  abundant DepressionGeorge Milton, an intelligent yet cynical humanity, and Lennie Small, a man of large stature and great strength but circumscribed mental abilitiesare on their way to another element of California. They hope to one day attain their shared aspiration of settling down on their own piece of land. Lennies crack of the ambition is merely to tend to (and touch) soft rabbits on the enkindle.
