Rachel in Eleven by Sandra Cisneros
In the little story, Eleven, by Sandra Cisneros, the narrator, Rachel, is con precedinged with the conflict of dealing with an un but teacher, Mrs. equipment casualty. Mrs. Price asks for person from the class to claim the raggedy, disgustful pinny and immediately accuses Rachel base on the other students claims. Rachel tries to eff the position that it is her 11th natal day but no ane even acknowledges it besides her family. Consequently, this causes a whirl wind of emotions for Rachel because she is turnover ab expose this ugly sweater she is world accused of owning and that no one is treating her how she deserves to be treated. Although the sweater was non hers, Mrs. Price uses her great power to force Rachel to put it on. In doing so, Rachel provides the reader with insight into her dishonor, unmerited treatment, and unequal relations of power.\nThe former could have easily just said it was an old smash up sweater, but accordingly the reader would not experi ence with Rachel. To Rachel, the sweater represents something she is not. She sees it as being gross and hideous and tho an underprivileged person would truly wear it. The owner of the sweater would have to have a sense pride in order to step out in public representing themselves wearing the repulsive sweater. However, it shows true caseful and resistance to overcome shame and to either embrace it or simply not cede it to get to her. Even addressing the fact that Rachel is ashamed but not letting it bother her is a form of resistance. Rachel overcomes resistance in the following quote; tho when math period ends Mrs. Price says loud and in front of everybody, Now Rachel thats enough, because she sees Ive shoved the red sweater to the tippy-tip time out of my desk and its hanging only over the edge plow a waterfall, but I dont care (Cisneros 8). Since Rachel admits she does not care she is unquestionably resisting Mrs. Prices orders in which case overcoming shame as a form of resistan...
